Staple Skirt for Kids size 1-16
Kids' Staple Skirt
Jeans skirts are not really a complicated sew (aside from the zip fly, and even that isn't really hard once you get the feel of it- pinky swear)! To get a great looking skirt, it is all in the fit and details. You will want to buy jean thread - just trust me and buy it - get two spools or three or a dozen cause you are soon going to be in love. Jean thread is stronger than normal thread, it also has some stretch which means you are not going to be popping any seams as you move through your day.
Top stitching - top stitching is SOOOOOO important to giving jean skirts an authentic look, it is where you stitch on top of your seams. We will be top stitching everything - I'm not kidding!
The fit of this skirt is a mid rise waist that is fitted at the top of the hip with Pencil or slight A Line options in both mini and knee length.
- Banded Waistband with Faux Fly or Contoured Waistband with Zip Fly
- Full Elastic or Button Tab Elastic
- Knee Length Pencil Skirt with Kick Pleat or Mini Pencil Length
- Knee or Mini Length A line
(this is a slight A line shape for a greater range of motion than the Pencil)
- Front, Key, and Back Pockets
This pattern is an Advanced Beginner to Intermediate pattern depending on the options you select. The basic skirt with faux fly and elastic waist is a great place to start out and then you can build your skills as your comfort grows and tackle the functioning fly and contoured waistband.
